There’s just over one week to go until the start of the #BigWalkAndWheel, the UK’s largest inter-school #walking, #wheeling and #cycling challenge, supported by Schwalbe Tyres UK. Is your school signed up yet? If not, ask them to get involved here 👇 buff.ly/3kJjU5R

“28 million people in the UK (more than 1 in 3 of the population) now live in Local Authorities which accept 20mph as the right speed limit where people live, work or play.” 20splenty.org/20mph_places

"Slower driving speeds, increased levels of walking and cycling and minimal impact on journey times are among the key findings of a new report carried out in areas of Wales trialling the new default 20mph speed limit." 20s Plenty Horsham

Cuts to #ActiveTravel funding announced earlier this month could cost £2 billion in the long term, according to Department for Transport's own cost-benefit analysis for walking and cycling investment. It's a backward move that simply doesn't make sense 👇 theguardian.com/news/2023/mar/…

20mph is a natural cross party issue: it has such a wide base of support amongst the public that it is a wonderful focus of unity for us all. Something we definitely need! Hugh Lumby Nick Adams-King 🇬🇧🇳🇱🏳️‍🌈 Rob Humby

In England 18 million people live in local authorities where a wide-area 20mph speed limit is set across the community for most roads. The number of places deciding to set their wide-area speed limit back to 30mph is ZERO. See this from National Travel Attitudes Survey.

Children wanting to walk or cycle to their school, their shops and their friends and asking for community-wide 20mph limits aren't on the LEFT or on the RIGHT. They are at the BOTTOM of our considerations as a society if we maintain a default 30mph urban/village limit.

Millions of people will gain from the national default 20mph limit for residential areas in Wales. Thanks to the drivers who will find it adds less than a minute to most journeys. Being a little bit slower will make a huge difference to so many. See 20splenty.org/welsh_benefits

Building more roads will just create more traffic, taking us even further from reaching our #NetZero targets ⚠ Investing in safe, accessible active travel routes and affordable public transport must be the priority instead 👇 theguardian.com/environment/20… Transport Action Network

I was recently zapped by a police speed gun, doing 26mph in a new 20mph stretch of a 30mph road. On the speed awareness course, I learned something: driving at 20 in many urban areas gets you from A to B in roughly the same time as 30. AND it's safer. inews.co.uk/opinion/roads-…

#20scoming It has already for 18m people in England where national 30mph is not deemed fit-for-purpose for 21st century community needs and 20mph is the norm. Wales is doing it the "smart" way by changing the national 30 to 20. It's the way to do it economically and sensibly

3 things you will never achieve with 30mph limits in residential areas. 1. Vision Zero on road casualties 2. Net Zero on transport carbon 3. Solving the Type 2 Diabetes crisis All require a change to safe active mobility and 20mph limits are a necessary foundation.

All over the UK children find walking or cycling to school easier and safer because local authorities of all political colours setting 20mph limits on roads they use. Lives are being improved and lives are being saved. Its popular and cost-effective. bit.ly/3OyrsED

Ministers should not be considering restrictions on our councils’ ability to impose 20mph speed limits, and rather should be enabling and funding councils to implement these safer and greener schemes. #20splenty #SaferRoads theguardian.com/politics/2023/…

Glad to see 20 MPH to be introduced outside Shipley School. However, why must residents apply individually, when the arguments provided by the Cabinet Member for Highways could be applied outside every school? #20isplenty #schoolstreets West Sussex County Council theargus.co.uk/news/23811317.…
