Here is @nyc_dot explainer for current work being undertaken on the corridor. They are installing a new fully pedestrianized plaza on 34 Ave by PS 212 from 82nd St to 84 St on the southern side of the Avenue. On the current 89 St plaza they are moving the bike lane to the curb.
