In Pulitzer Prize winner David Blight’s book Race & Reunion: The Civil War in American Memory, a commemoration organized by freed slaves & some white missionaries took place on May 1, 1865, in Charleston, S.C.

Good morning garden friends! My morning garden walk and the first real vegetable pick of the season is a Black Beauty heirloom zucchini. She’s lovely! Let the growing (and eating) season begin. #gardening

This made me cackle!! Our pilot on my last flight told us at the beginning of the flight we may catch some severe turbulence towards the end so I immediately ordered a glass of red wine so I could sleep through it. 🤣

Ok I’m ready to rest. I’ve been in the yard all day. Literally. But on Tuesday? We go to war!!! Mission eradicate opossums. #gardening

In other more encouraging garden news spring has sprung and summer is hereeeeeee! Flowers are in full bloom as well as the berries. 😍 I also have at least one squash plant that is fruiting and so many more just getting started. It’s going to be a good summer! #gardening

Good morning garden friends! I’m back home and of course back in the garden 😆. I actually got back around midnight and had to get out my flashlight to assess the damage. Welp. That patch of dirt is Mr Opossum. He’s back!!! It’s war now. I will dance on his grave…eventually. lol

Welp I made it home to
San Francisco and it’s a cool and quite nippy 45deg tonight. I can’t help but chuckle at this Bay Area “summer”. 😆

And from someone like me who loves live theatre and sees a lot of shows, it was SO good to be in a Broadway theatre full of Black folk. The cultural impact of The Wiz cannot be denied. It’s one of my favorite things. ❤️

Finally got a chance to see The Wiz last night on Broadway before my celebrity crush Wayne Brady leaves the show and a time was had. Loved it!!

Now how I’m complaining about the East Coast heat and humidity when I’m planning to be in Nola 4th of July. SMH 🤦🏾‍♀️

When I tell you this East Coast humidity is no joke. Whewwwww I don’t know how you all deal with these hot summers. The Bay Area has totally changed my body. Lol
