Today we went back to our 1/2 and 1/4 choral count to see any connections. The discussion guided us to ask if 1/2 is < or > 1/4. As Ss guided me to draw models representing each fraction, we were able to transfer that info to a number line. So much learning in third grade.

How should student’s thinking look?? Different…..Students thinking is simply amazing!! Look at these students thinking…they all have the same answer. Even the spider web thinking is remarkable! So much fun ! UCLA Math Project

Another day with choral count. Now we had to get to 1,000. It was a little challenging but they were able to find some patterns. Let’s see what they notice tomorrow? UCLA Math Project

Had the pleasure of listening to 5th graders share their understanding of eighths yesterday. We started off the discourse by listening to each other about what they already know about fractions/eighths, & they continued to blow me away as they taught each other!

Today I asked students, “What is your favorite subject?” I was extremely emotional when 3/4 of my girls said they love 💗 math and that the best part is that math has been fun this year! They know it’s okay not to know but not okay not to try!@UCLAMathProject

In kindergarten today...18 red flowers and 5 blue, how many flowers? They are getting very comfortable with their tools. I can see which strategies they used. I had them explain anyways. ⁦UCLA Math Project⁩ ⁦Lisa Melton Pizzuto
