What would I do if I had been alive during slavery in the US? Or the genocide in Rwanda, or the Holocaust in WW2? I've been wondering a lot lately about how something like genocide can become "ambient" to our lives...

"Praying is no substitute for politics. When we abandon living in the world, when we no longer love the earth, when we ignore the neighbour on the road, prayer is left an empty, make-believe piety. We no longer walk with Jesus - Word made flesh - whatever our orthodox

US policy seems to be: we keep telling Israel not to do terrible counterproductive things but if it decides to do them we support it unconditionally.

We don’t need a seat at the table of the kingdoms of the world. There’s already a feast waiting for us free of domination and exploitation. At Christ’s table. We discipline our bodies, minds and spirits to love our God, our neighbors and our enemies now in anticipation.

Thankful today for the French opening ceremony that reminded the world of a table where God is with us, broken for us. All of us. Amen.

Israel's most recent attempt to sabotage a ceasefire came today when it assassinated Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, the primary negotiator in the truce talks. Nothing screams "we want a ceasefire" quite like assassinating the negotiator for said ceasefire proposal.

Several really awful low level passes over Beirut this afternoon by these guys, breaking the sound barrier and sending everyone into a panic. Even our dog was panicked (I think he has the canine equivalent of PTSD from 2020) 😠

🔥 analysis of the historiography of (postwar) American evangelicalism. I feel like this will now be the standard reference my students will need to engage with when defining evangelicalism. Wish I had this when I was doing my dissertation research!
