In pictures: this is what Lubigi wetland had been converted into, dry land. Lubigi system is important because it drains Mulago, Kawempe, Bwaise etc, & filters water to flow northwards Nakasongola.

HAPPENING: ⚡RESTORATION OF LUBIGI WETLAND
The third phase of Lubigi wetland restoration is under way.
The National Environment ENVIRONMENT Act, 2019, empowers NEMA & Local Govts to evict encroachers from sensitive eco systems such as Lubigi wetland.

The enforcement team has been on ground since yesterday 25th, May 2024 undertaking the eviction exercise on Lubigi Wetland in Wakiso District. In this video the wetland had been compacted & converted into other purposes like cultivation etc

National Forestry Authority-Uganda in partnership with ERA Uganda launched a restoration of 15(ha) in Mabira Forest. This initiative is a symbol of our commitment to a sustainable future. The key message in this launch was that that collaboration is to protect the forest & ensure sustainability.

I’ve spent the past few months coordinating and liasing with Environment inspectors within National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and other key stakeholders , AirQo , Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) , Makerere University Lung Institute and U.S. Mission Uganda in preparation for the 2024 Air Quality Awareness Week which has been launched today😊.
