Another lengthy sentence, now handed to an American citizen for tweeting. This only the most recent example of a series of outrageous human rights violations that have taken place in the Kingdom since President Biden traveled to Jeddah in July.

While Biden is correct in rethinking ties with such a poor ally, this sentence underscores why it's critical human rights remain as central as oil in this thinking. Jailing Americans and unlawfully banning them travel are national security concerns and should be treated as such.

This is outrageous. The Saudi government sentenced a 72-year-old US citizen to 16 years in prison and a 16-year travel ban for tweets after arresting and torturing him while he was on a trip to Riyadh to see family. Another horrible example by MBS of how you don’t treat partners.
