Parliament has now been dissolved for the General Election and there are no MPs. The APPG on Refugees therefore ceases to exist over the election period and will return in the next Parliament.

Strong public support for a pilot humanitarian visa scheme from the new Government. As Refugee Council 🧡 CEO Enver Solomon 🧡 says "We need to bring an end to men, women and children who have fled war and oppression in countries such as Afghanistan being driven into the arms of the gangs"

Welcome question from Laura Kyrke-Smith MP to the Minister today. Being granted refugee status should be a moment for celebration but we are failing people seeking to rebuild their lives here. Pleasing to hear the Government will consider changes to prevent refugee homelessness.

In the last Parliament APPG members heard from refugees about the barriers to family reunion and the negative impact on mental health and integration. Thank you to Carla Denyer for raising this issue with the Home Secretary and highlighting the simple policy change required.

📢BREAKING! We're excited to share that the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) now allows family reunification for those separated during the Kabul evacuation in 2021. This means some Afghans can refer their closest family members for relocation to the UK.🧵

These tragedies are becoming all too frequent. 30 people have now died attempting to cross the channel in small boats this year, double last year's total. Border security measures must be combined with safe routes for refugees to reduce the need to take dangerous journeys.
