If you look closely at a clump of mosses and liverworts in #ScotlandsRainforest you may spot a tiny fern. This one is Wilson's filmy fern, which is named after the 19th century bryologist William Wilson, who discovered 60 new species of moss!

Rahoy Hills is a beautiful Scottish Wildlife Trust nature reserve near Lochaline. It has a real mix of habitats, including areas of #ScotlandsRainforest , and, of course, loads of wildlife! Can you hear the cuckoo??
Staff & volunteers at #GleannShìldeag have been building gorse corrals to help establish groups of new trees.
Deer don't like jumping into confined spaces so a ring of stacked gorse is just the job to keep them out. And the thorns are an added deterrent!

In 2021 a group of indigenous leaders from the Amazon travelled to Glasgow for COP26. During their trip, they paid a visit to a much less famous rainforest.

No one likes a midge-attack!! But they're an important food source for spiders, fish, bats, birds and more. If you want to avoid the worst of the midges, visit #ScotlandsRainforest in spring, autumn or winter. These woodlands stay green all year! #Springwatch

Did you know that some of the woodland around Loch Lomond is temperate rainforest? These native woods can only grow in areas with high rainfall and stable temperatures all year. They're incredibly important for wildlife (including midges...)
