A Stitch in Time ✂️ I thought you may like the dress in this painting I bought recently by Ferdinand Bassot. For my own reasons I believe this may be his wife.

She is also credited with 'saving the cotton industry' with this invention at a time when synthetics were flooding onto the market. I'm ashamed to say, I had never heard of her.

An important mid-century fashion staple was the voluminous coat. Their fullness was often balanced with wide or balloon-shaped sleeves. Balenciaga was a pioneer of this chic garment and Dior designed his own versions throughout the period. #DiorBalenciaga

Today's #ootd is this 1950s silk ball gown made in Madrid. Despite it looking gold in these photos, the object description says it is a celery green. I adore the wrap bodice and the side wrap belt. So delightful. Augusta Auctions #Fashionhistory
I had an epic carboot find today. 8 big ledger books full of 1940s fashion magazines and designs. I had thought it was a students work but some designs have dates and initials next to them. Any ideas? (Other than someone very organised!) #FashionHistory #1940s Costume Society UK
