pleas for civility and calm
profuse thanking of police
statements that we respect other viewpoints

In the past week, I've had multiple conversations with Jewish students at Columbia, USC, and elsewhere.

They are scared.

They are scared for their safety, for their wellbeing, for their ability to learn.

If you know a Jewish student, be there for them.

Is what’s happening in Gaza tragic? Yes.

Is the War in Gaza a unique crime against humanity? No.

Is Hamas, the government of Gaza, a terrorist organization? Yes.

Is Israel committing genocide? No.

Are innocent non-combatants being killed in Gaza? Yes.

Know it or not, that’s what these students are asking for.

Incitement to murder should have no place at University of Michigan or anywhere else.
