Good to have this out in the Daily Express, responding to Henry Smith MP πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ complaining about his trophy hunting import ban Bill failing. It was based on misinformation & risked harming : unamended, it deserved to fail in the House of Lords express.co.uk/comment/expres…

Adam Hart 🦏 There is nothing more careless of fact than a fund dependent animal welfare group pounding out regular misinformation as it pursues a now well trodden money raising trail.

More misinformation from the HSI network - I do wonder whether any of the groups campaigning against trophy hunting know anything at all about the topic, or whether they just pound out misinformation because there is literally zero accountability

Pleased to be reminded that 'Spies in Disguise', in which Will Smith is turned into a pigeon that works for the CIA, has not one but THREE cloaca gags. I don't think we'll see that statistic repeated in Hollywood for at least a century. Momentous really.

A study in South Africa with findings that are just as applicable to Namibia. A 108 km stretch of electric fence monitored for 5 years killed 43 species. Rock monitors, tortoises and pangolins were among the most common victims. 1/ africageographic.com/stories/shock-…

The stats for pangolins are particularly concerning, given the severe threats this species faces. Small fence modifications and increasing the height of the bottom strand could make all the difference for hundreds, if not thousands, of pangolins. Farmers please take note! 2/2

Deer hit by a car, wounded by a hunter, or stuck in a fence, sure, respond. Deer starving, sick, or wounded by a wolf, no. People aren't objecting to rescuing zebras, they're objecting to rescuing zebras from the natural predators of zebras.

Some may be puzzled about why I go on about this, because 'it's just two zebras' or 'they meant well,' but I do so because I think rescuing wildlife from predators is symptomatic of a growing nature detachment that is becoming a greater problem than most people are aware of.

Henry Smith MP πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§, regarding your piece in the Express (express.co.uk/comment/expres…), here is some key evidence (doi.org/10.1101/2023.0…). The bill needs either amending or re-writing to allow conservation exemptions. Let me know if you want to discuss.

The morning after the day before.

Very sad scenes in the Peak District village of Baslow this morning after the river burst its banks during yesterday's heavy rain.

Comments please...personally, I find this at best very odd. At worst, positively harmful. Injured prey species are food for many other species. Not sure what KWS are doing here.
