I know those closely involved in Mayor Jamie Driscoll’s campaign will be hurting a bit right now, but they should be very proud. It was always going to be tough, but 126,652 votes for a candidate with no political machine behind them is very respectable & part of a (re)building of the left.

Commiserations to Mayor Jamie Driscoll for a valiant campaign against a soulless machine. Sorry he fell short, but he planted an important flag. There is no way the thin gruel being served up by Starmerite Labour is anything like an adequate response to the crisis. We must prepare for that.

Very good result for Jamie Driscoll - polled more than Tory, Reform UK and Lib Dem candidates combined. He was never likely to win against Labour machine region-wide. But this is a very big vote for a left wing independent.

What an astonishing campaign. I’m in awe of everyone who gave their time, energy, resources and votes.

When recent GE polling in the North East shows Labour with 60+% of the vote, most commentators thought Labour would walk this. The fact that we got 126,652 votes here, nearly…

Very good members' meeting this evening in Hexham - thanks to everyone who made it. Together we can confront the big challenges we face in education.

Huge solidarity to all of those protesting and the students we know are ready to step up new encampments. In the face of the complicity of Gov and public bodies, like universities, who invest in the companies supporting genocide , they are on the right side of history.

It’s genuinely incredible what Biden has done. Permitted and armed a genocidal mission in Gaza, and paved the way for Trump to deploy brutal state repression as he himself has already done. America is in a grave, grave, place. And the world is watching,

I wrote about what I’d been reading, for the The Guardian. Now: editing’s important. I’m happy to be edited and I welcome it. But isn’t it funny how it’s always the same word that gets edited out? theguardian.com/books/2024/may…

It’s being gutted. One wonders if any union leaders might actually show their teeth over this, having been sold the “New Deal” in exchange for quiescence over the last few years.

“The only polling data we have shows ⁦Mayor Jamie Driscoll⁩ in a statistical dead heat with ⁦The Labour Party⁩, suggesting that the race may come down to turnout on the day. But whether he wins or loses on 2 May, his challenge is a harbinger of things to come.” tribunemag.co.uk/2024/04/jamie-…

I used my postal vote for Jamie Driscoll due to his track record, his platform, and what he represents.

Not often, sadly, that we get to vote for someone for positive reasons, rather than as the least worst option.

Use your vote.
