20 years ago, cancer patients with VTE had similar rates of 30-day recurrence or major bleeding during anticoagulation

Nowadays, major bleeds are 2-fold more common than VTE recurrences

Safety is the issue

EKOS vs Flowtriever thrombectomy is not always a straightforward decision. Risk of bleeding 🩸 is REAL for both groups although no difference in 30-day readmission, in-hospital death, or ischemic strokes.

Among 244 VTE patients with severe renal failure receiving enoxaparin for 6 months, VTE recurrences were less common than major bleeding: 4.1 vs. 13%

But during the first 10 days, fatal PE was 5-fold more common than fatal bleeding: 2.1 vs. 0.4%
