He might've only been at DHSC for a few weeks before his elevation to Cabinet, but managing to retain the registry of 550,000 volunteers for clinical research is one hell of a legacy. Well done Robert Jenrick 👏

The type of u-turn we can celebrate.

This is a really nice piece from Institute for Fiscal Studies colleagues Jonathan Cribb and Bee Boileau. Health-related inactivity is up since the pandemic, but there are a number of convincing pieces of evidence that it's largely *already inactive* people, rather than employed people, becoming sick.

The idea someone as genuinely lovely as Carla Francome can get abuse like this. We need urgent action on unnecessary car use for climate, pollution, inactivity, road danger. Whether you agree LTNs are answer or not, the toxic abuse around them is a sign of a society gone wrong...

Utterly depressing. The UK economy is still roughly 6% smaller than its pre-pandemic trend and about 14% below where pre-GFC trends would imply.

Maybe just a glimmer of hope on mortgage rates?

According to MoneyFacts...

📉Average 2 year fixed rates down this morning from 6.55% to 6.54%

📉Average 5 year fixed rates down from 6.43% to 6.41%

Still extremely elevated of course 👇

As I've seen elsewhere: Waking up this morning, we have a Christian King, a Hindu Prime Minister, a Jewish Home Secretary and a Muslim Mayor of London.

You can disagree with personal politics, but that is a victory for a diverse, multicultural Britain - and we should be proud.

I’m in the chemo clinic watching Rishi Sunak become the first person of colour to be PM. For a 1st generation migrant like me, born in Sri Lanka, it is a moment of great pride to live in a European country where this is possible. Racism is not over, but we’re on the right path.

I'd like to welcome everyone born between 27th July 1975 and 11th May 1980 to the 'older than the Prime Minister' zone. Yes, you are officially old now.

The sumptuous art nouveau detailing of the Victoria Baths in Rusholme, Manchester. Completed 1903 to the designs of the municipal architect Henry Price, the complex included three pools, Turkish baths and a superintendents flat.

We're on the brink of a new prime minister from a minority ethnic background. But not the first, that's Disraeli. He too faced racism from his own Conservative party & the nation as a whole. Jerry from Lowestoft, the racist Tory member exposed on LBC would disapprove of him too.
