Growing up, I never knew there were diff kinds of potatoes beyond 'Ooty' & regular. Much later I saw pics... and the diversity is gorgeous!
In Chennai/ Tamil Nadu/ India, we take mango diversity for granted & to some extent, bananas (I don't know how long we will have them tho!)
