We are not sure if we trust our Staffordshire History Centre mascot Oatcake in the kitchen but we wanted to wish everyone a happy national oatcake day!

Another addition to the Minton archive. This little notebook is SD 2087, a notebook containing family history research, collected and compiled by Thomas William Minton of Stoke-upon-Trent.

We’ve recently set up a new volunteering project to list the thousands of currently unlisted plans in the Ford and Slater architects’ collection (SD 1025). There are all sorts of plans in this collection, ranging from residential housing to public buildings, churches and schools.

We were very excited to take in a collection of records from Goodwins Jewellers (SD 2091) in July and over the next few weeks will be sharing some of the gems from the collection, starting with our site visit and a photograph of the shop from around the turn of the 20th century.

For this week’s Goodwins’ post, we thought we’d share with you a fabulous plan, complete with fabric swatches, showing the proposed new colour scheme in the shop in 1965. There are also photographs showing the redesigned layout and an account listing the alterations in detail.

In the 1970s, Goodwins began to manufacture their own jewellery range on site. This week’s Goodwins’ post shows a stock ledger and some of the catalogues for the range, trade name Eros. It’s amazing how much detail is included in the ledger!

We hope you’re enjoying seeing the variety of records recently taken in from Goodwins Jewellers. This week we’re featuring the sales and advertising material, some of which requires careful cleaning and repackaging. Several items have the slogan ‘Goodwin’s: the ringleaders.’

We hope that everyone is enjoying the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance today: this traditional folk dance dates back centuries. If you can't make it to the village, enjoy this video coproduced with Richard Clarke School: the pupils truly brought history to life! youtube.com/watch?v=ljGHI1…
