Australia π¦πΊ looks forward to taking up a seat on the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission in 2025. At the UN Security Council today, we reaffirmed our commitment to work with all Member States to support conflict prevention and sustaining peace as a priority during our term.
Small Island Developing States have been calling for an improved understanding of vulnerability. Australia welcomes the adoption of the United Nationsβs Multidimensional Vulnerability Index as an important first step in this process.
For Australia, the business case for core funding is clear: Core funding equips UN Development to be agile & innovative, & to respond effectively to emerging crises, enabling UNDP to deliver on its mandate. π¦πΊ is long-standing supporter of core funding to the UN Development System.

Glad to bring together the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test Ban Treaty (#CTBT) friends and Dr Robert Floyd. Now is the time to press for the universalisation of the Treaty, as we continue to push for a nuclear-test-free world.
Australia continues to condemn the Houthis' detention of dozens of United Nations, NGO and diplomatic staff. We call for their immediate and unconditional release and urge the Houthis to ensure the safety and security of humanitarian and UN personnel.
