We would just like to say 'thank you' to Jessica for all the amazing work she has done at the British Library.

(She is leaving us 😿)

Here's one of the manuscripts she has been working on, and it is a beaut. A lovely book to end on 👏

A miniature of King Theudebert being murdered in his treasury, and his head being thrown off his castle wall.

(Don't try this at home.)

We ♥️ this discovery of a mosaic in Syria, featuring scenes of the Trojan war, Neptune, and Hercules.

It reminded us of this wonderful image of Hercules, in the Regia Carmina (14th century).

(Nice loincloth.)

Today's the 956th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, that took place on 14 October 1066.
(Had to work that out on our fingers.)

Investigate what did and didn't happen that day (did Harold survive the battle, ooh?) in our article 👇

We'd love to know more about Margery Dicks and her sister Anna, who purchased an indulgence (releasing them from time spent in Purgatory) in 1439.

We've digitised this charter as part of our Medieval and Renaissance Women project. Read more about it here:

'Laye not this bye whan I ame Deade and gone,
Oute of sighte, out of mynde, do not disdayne,
To learne it without booke; that is alone,
the Beste waye to kepe it for to remayne.'

A poem added to a medieval prayer-book, adapted for a later female owner

Alexander the Great built an empire that stretched across the world.

He rode across the sky on a flying chariot.

He descended to the bottom of the sea in a glass bell.

Or did he?

You can find out more in our myth-busting, blockbuster exhibition:
