Has been an interesting time trying to digest all the deficit language used through the autism assessment process. All my deficits from birth until now dissected, scrutinised then written in a 30 page report. Weird feelings lol (I'm still overall relieved though)

The most practical and age-appropriate way I’ve explained “neurodiversity” to my children is by sharing that we all experience the world differently. We consider that every sound, texture, feeling and interaction can hold a different meaning for someone else.

Honestly most experiences hold a different meaning for each of us. “Consider” is the operative word. You must have consideration to healthily coexist in this world. There is no respect, kindness or connectedness without consideration.

This is what happens when Autism is seen through a white lens only and only genuine through your proximity to whiteness. This is such a dangerous rhetoric but unfortunately not uncommon. Many Black Austic people are always gaslighted and their SEN is always one they must prove!
