‘This is an engineer’s building’ was the comment made by our structural engineers, Price and Myers. Taken yesterday, this photograph shows the upper balcony stripped back to its steel frame. Above, the truss with its huge span pushed 1930 engineering daring to its limits.

The upper room of the south turret. Directly above this roof is one of the former Odeon domes. This dramatic space has just received its new floor: the concrete was poured this week. It will open as a private bar/function room when Bradford Live opens.

Busy on site today by the look of it - roof works, insulating plant room floor, crane in action.
New cladding looks very nice too. 👌🏼

The second ‘where is it?’ photograph is trickier. It’s the original north oval staircase, (there’s a south one too) which rises from the basement up to the upper balcony. It’s foundations have been reinforced, and these new openings built at basement and ground floor levels.

We asked which part of the building this was and you guessed correctly: the upper part of the ground floor of the Thornton Road tower. The former Odeon sits on a sloping site, so this tower was given an extra section to ‘level up’. Original windows from here are being restored.
