Tribune journalists have told Alden over and over about unacceptable wage inequities in our newsroom. Alden has said repeatedly that we are wrong. Alden can now try to give my colleagues that response in court.

Many feelings today. I’m angry it had to come to this, but so grateful for these kickass, brave journalists who are unconscionably paid less than their peers and are demanding things change for younger/future generations of women + people of color in the Chicago Tribune newsroom.

All seven of these co-workers are outstanding journalists. To illustrate that point, just a week ago, on the same day, Darcel was named a Nieman fellow at Harvard and Christy Gutowski won the prestigious Anne Keegan Award from the Chicago Headline Club.

Paying Black & female journalists way less hurts our city bad. It’s totally unacceptable. These folks who I’m lucky to call friends are standing up for the journalists of tomorrow and Chicago. I’m with them forever.

Hats off to my colleagues who are fighting the good fight. What Alden has allowed is simply unacceptable. It's a shame these talented journalists have to sue their employer to be paid a fair and equitable wage.

Couldn't be more proud of or angry for the courageous journalists who agreed to join this suit. Not only are they going public, they are standing up for all of the other women and reporters of color in our newsroom that Alden refuses to make whole.
