At the Canada in Greece mission, Minister Joly thanked Canada’s diplomats and embassy staff for their hard work to strengthen the Canada-Greece relationship and help to evacuate Canadians from Israel in October 2023.

While in Athens, Minister Joly met with the Minister of National Defence of Greece Nikos Dendias. They exchanged views on the current regional and global security environment, including in Ukraine and in the Middle East.

Min. Joly was warmly welcomed by Greek Foreign Minister Gerapetritis. Canada and Greece will continue to work together to address the world challenges, including the crisis in the Middle East, Ukraine and climate change.

Yesterday, Minister Joly and Secretary Antony Blinken discussed bilateral and global issues, including the crisis in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine and the situation in Haiti.

With the abolition of slavery, Haiti’s independence marked a historic victory. Today, Haitian communities celebrate Haitian Flag Day, an emblem of strength. As Haitians continue to demonstrate this strength in the face of adversity, Canada’s support for them remains steadfast.
