Saying patients with long-standing #eatingdisorders cannot change before we have even worked out what might help them more effectively is premature and unethical. Instead of giving up on people we must be honest about what we don’t know and seek to understand more.
ED aren’t transient disorders, they last for years. The brain is very sensitive to starvation. The cortex reduces in size in anorexia but this can be reversed. #FEDRCPsych22
When involving people with #livedexperience in your research, please don't consider only what you want to get out of them. Think also about what they might want to get out of taking part, and how the project can serve them to develop and grow as individuals.
Really interesting evening seeing Dr Richard Shepherd talk about his career - one of my favourite things is learn in about other peoples jobs because all I’ve ever known is nursing/therapy.
