This is potentially v sad news for Hull & the wider area. It's always been a tricky place to recruit, especially for international students but it's an area where local opportunities are so important. Chem may be geographically out of reach for some now. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

I love how in chemdraw if I'm rotating something with my mouse I get the option of rotating it 89.8° or 90.3° because those are clearly the amount I want to rotate this thing.

Interesting to see a theme today about the low rate of declaring disability among Chemistry students. Also low rates of asking for accommodations from students entitled to them. Practical suggestion in one talk: a lab poster with a list of common adjustments. #ViCEPHEC24

Some news: I'm delighted to be moving into the teaching team Oxford Chemistry next week as a Departmental Lecturer in Practical Chemistry. Excited to be taking up a teaching-focused role and working within the great CTL team to deliver Oxford's integrated practical MChem course!

Train home from #ViCEPHEC24, and a group of friends in their mid 20s talking about ChatGPT in GCSE exams. One says it stops you developing your writing skills. Another says “what if you want to become like a pilot? You don’t need writing skills, you just need an A* in English.”
