Always a great day.

Looking forward to talking for the first time in a few years and contradicting everything I said last time I spoke!

I like this.

I give all exam classes a lengthy formal homework every week. Used to have a system where I’d alternate between me marking a week and kids marking the next.

This year with 3 exam classes I’ve tried to mark them all every week, for no real gain in pupil learning.

anon_opin 😡🗯 Because coursework is so much like real life.
'Thank you for applying for this difficult, complex and well-paid job. We expect you to know basically everything about the work, but you only have to know one thing at any time and can then forget it while learning the next thing.'

RT-ed some flowcharts. As relevant as ever, seen all of them in the last 24h. They all start with a preferred outcome.

Nothing better than a wee bit of Higher Maths to start the weekend. Thanks to Chris McGrane and Nino Barcella for giving up their Saturday morning and well done to all of our young people who turned out.

A platitudinous comment.

Literacy and numeracy have always, and will always, be essential. These are the bedrock upon which further learning in other domains can be built.

School isn’t about churning out people for specific jobs. That’s the role of further education.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the difference in pupil understanding. Rewriting the question order and some colour highlighting in this case.

Finding that these diagrams are helping to open up backwards percentage questions, like these from Corbettmaths

Have dabbled with bar models in the past, but kids found the diagrams to be a 'task' rather than a 'tool'. Kids can create them themselves to capture the narrative.

Today I gave my Higher this wee challenge I put together a few years back.

Always provokes good debates and pushed understanding of indices.
