A8 #pedsmedchat UTIs cause renal damage through tubular interstitial nephritis and resulting renal scarring. Unfortunately some of the same mechanisms to eradicate UTI are likely contributing to kidney injury.

A5 #pedsmedchat It should be noted if an UTI is 'recurrent' if it is bacterial persistence (failure of the initial UTI to be fully treated/cleared) or a new bacteria that has infected the urinary tract.

A5 #pedsmedchat Many of the same risk factors for an initial UTI are also risk factors for recurrent UTIs.

A2 #pedsmedchat Symptoms in children and adult can be similar - however young children may not be able to verbalize pain the same way an older patient may be able to. In this case, their symptoms may be more vague and nonspecific like fever, irritability, and lethargy.
