Huge thanks to Cllr Dan Heap for his work on this. The city loved hosting the Swifties, but should never have had to incur costs on a tour that generates billions for the artist!

I commented at the time about the absurdity of the Council subsidising this (cue the usual “industry” voices telling us to be grateful for them making so much money from major events and “putting Edinburgh on the map”.)

Brian Ferguson Stevie Carnie Donald Turvill I struggle to believe the gigs wouldn’t come to Edinburgh if they had to pay for toilets, security etc that’s been covered by the tax payer.

Thing is, did 40 bars, cafes, hotels, hostels, etc make an extra grand from Taylor swift fans? Easy, far in excess. Where did the money go though? The owners of the above things. Councils shouldn’t be subsidising private profit like this.
