Last year Defra UK confirmed their aim is 'ultimately for farrowing crates to no longer be necessary, and this remains an objective that we continue to work towards'. Our #CrateEscape campaign calls for the Government to phase out their use as soon as possible.

There is currently no legal requirement for food labels to show animal welfare standards or method of slaughter. We believe consumers should have this information, so they can make informed decisions about the products they buy.

Farmed fish are let down every day by laws which protect terrestrial farmed animals and ignore their welfare needs - despite their legal recognition as sentient animals by the #SentienceAct . We're calling for farmed fish protections to be implemented as soon as possible.

We are calling for a Government Bill to end live exports for fattening and slaughter🐄

This policy has been decades in the making - raised by Conservative MP (now Peer) Janet Fookes in 1975, and more than 40 years later included in the 2019 Manifesto.

Lumpfish and wrasse species ('cleaner fish') are remarkable animals with unique personalities and the ability for tool use. The aquaculture industry uses millions of them (about 15 million produced in Scotland in 2020) to eat sea lice from farmed salmon.

Between 14-16 million laying hens are forced to spend their lives in cages in the UK. We are campaigning for Defra UK to launch a Call for Evidence on ending the use of cages for laying hens as soon as possible.

Our #CrateEscape campaign calls on Defra UK to end pig farrowing crates which are currently used for 60% of sows in the UK, who are unable to move about or even turn around for 5 weeks. Some countries have banned these cages for years but this is still legal in the UK…
