Excellent thread ⬇️ explaining why the Province is stepping in to force municipalities to loosen zoning restrictions. The old system, with municipalities as gatekeepers, failed to moderate housing prices. If we are to solve the housing crisis, we need a new, collective approach.

The NIMBYs object to supervised injection sites etc, saying we need treatment & supports for those battling addictions. Then when detox facilities & supportive housing is prosposed, they object to that too. It’s almost like they don’t give a crap about people suffering…🤔

Excellent thread ⬇️ from Russil Wvong on how we got here with carbon taxes. Taxes are never popular & this one is tied to a very unpopular leader. So, right wing and now left wing populist politicians have decided to use the carbon tax as a political wedge, damn the consequences

Nick nails it ⬇️ re the carbon tax. It’s not that the tax is bad policy or politically unsalable. It’s more that it has been chosen as a wedge issue, associated with an unpopular leader & buried in misinformation. The result of this is no meaningful action on climate change.
