This series on IPPs by Simon Hattenstone has been so good, but also so grim and depressing. Really important journalism on an issue that is getting some long-overdue attention, due to brilliant work by people like UNGRIPP, IPP COMMITTEE IN ACTION, Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, The Howard League and Prison Reform Trust.

Some could be made available by releasing all IPP prisoners phased over, say, 6 months. I read today of a man aged 40 in prison for stealing a mobile 'phone who was visited by his 14-tear old son who was only 10 months when last they met.
.@Crimenadjustice is hosting an event 'You can't be a black man in prison' based on research by Jason Warr (pub'd in British Journal of Criminology) with black male lifers. 12 June online/ and a few in-person tickets (London).
