Tangled bank squared: a moth with an entire behavioral scene painted on the canvas of its wings. My guess is this scene might look disgusting, and therefore deterring, to potential predators.

Army ant colonies are nomadic and frequently relocate their nest. Here are two photos of a Dorylus molestus emigration column at Mount Kenya. 🇰🇪 The ants are carrying their eggs, larvae and pupae - can’t move house without bringing the kids along.

The complex social behavior of ants has fascinated humans for centuries, but only now is it becoming possible to study ant behavior at the neural circuit level. New review with Dominic Frank in Annual Reviews: The Budding Neuroscience of Ant Social Behavior

Chickadees activate unique neural “barcodes” each time they hide food. These barcoded then light up in the brain when they retrieve it.

Did you know? In some cultures, ants were used to stitch wounds. Army or leaf-cutter ants would hold the skin together, putting their mouth to the wound and wait for them to bite down. The body would be removed, the head left
