Nope. Mainstream, centre-right Tories may be the silent majority--at least in what was the parliamentary party--but they are far from dominant, and certainly less vocal than their populist radical right colleagues and the party in the media that backs them. Not the way forward.

The Tory Party has been a runaway train for some years. A few of us have a sense of relief to have jumped free before it hits the buffers. But if it’s going to be replaced by the Farage Party, the country will be diminished. My ⁦The New Statesman⁩ piece. newstatesman.com/politics/2024/…

Why the general election on 4 July may just be the first part of a two-stage implosion of the Conservative Party in the course of 2024 (and why some who would welcome this should be careful what they wish for). My piece for ⁦The New Statesman⁩. newstatesman.com/politics/2024/…

A question every Conservative candidate will likely be asked over the course of the election campaign: would you be willing to be in the same Parliamentary party as Nigel Farage?

There’s surely a form of centre-right politics that can appeal to better educated & younger voters. But the Tory Party chose to become the party almost exclusively of baby boomers with few educational qualifications. My ⁦The New Statesman⁩ piece. newstatesman.com/politics/2024/…
