IMO the very last thing our country needs is greater political influence over the choice of judges. The situation in the US should serve as a warning, not an example to follow

I’ve taken a closer look at Truss’s chapter on her time at the Ministry of Justice for ConservativeHome and, in particular, her plans to politicise the judiciary. Proper British conservatives should have nothing to do with them. conservativehome.com/2024/04/22/dav…

A “messy and chaotic battle against some deeply embedded vested interests & those on our own side who seek to appease them” cannot be avoided, says Truss. “VOTE TORY FOR MESSY & CHAOTIC BATTLES” is quite the election slogan. My ⁦The New Statesman⁩ piece. newstatesman.com/culture/books/…

A pleasing demolition of Liz Truss‘ new book by David Gauke highlighting a key point: Some of her arguments get v.close to conspiracy theories.
I would argue that propensity to fall for, or, worse, promote those, is a bigger threat to the West than the failure of Ms Truss agenda.

“...the tale of a politician with a simplistic mindset and a reckless temperament who should never have reached the top of British politics and whose ministerial career culminated in personal humiliation.”

In Ten Years to Save the West, Truss has lessons for the Conservative Party. They’re just not the ones she thinks. My review for ⁦The New Statesman⁩. newstatesman.com/culture/books/…
