This is a problem on lots of levels. 1) Sends message there's a free pass voting Reform to Tories 2) Erodes discipline and suggests disunity 3) Worst of both worlds in fusing Tory brand with Reform - risks alienating more liberal voters while unlikely to pull Reform voters back.

A relatively sensible Conservative Party should indeed be capable of saving many of the Blue Wall seats. But the pressure from the Right-wing media and factions on the Tory Right to embrace Faragist policies make it less likely to happen

My piece on what the polls suggest may happen in the Blue Wall and to what extent the Tories will prioritise winning it back.

“For those of us hoping for a revival of sensible centre-right politics, what happens in the Blue Wall will matter.”

The polls tell somewhat different stories. But in both Labour win seats across the shires and the home counties: the redoubts of Conservative England.

The weird thing about this is the doubling down on the strategy that from a polling perspective has already proved disastrous. Reform voters won’t believe it and the left of the party will be more inclined to vote for Labour / the LDs.
