Just got manuscript # 570 for 2024. Potential reviewers out there - please don't block the journal and consider the reviewer request. Since it's an interdisciplinary journal, I'm certainly not going to always effectively cull papers that are not ready for review but I AM TRYING.

We need to start this Terri Towner! I think it would be helpful to us. Added benefit - authors could get a sense of how difficult (and thankless) a job being an EIC is.

The worst part of the EIC gig is rejecting papers - really and truly. I wish I could provide each submission that I desk reject with feedback, but I just can't and I won't do it selectively for some authors and not authors. Right now, I'm trying to focus on those R&Rs!

#2 reason for desk rejecting a paper: It's not a complete and cohesive manuscript. It's a book chapter, a dissertation chapter, or a mishmash of information from a variety of sources. The audience for and contribution of a manuscript needs to be clear. Terri Towner Social Science Computer Review;

Don’t know if it was us but I can say that scholars dramatically overestimate the ability of the systems used to process and keep track of information. In my case, add 650+ submissions since Jan on a clunky system. We do the best we can with the resources available.

There are good and important reasons to format correctly. #1 is that it dramatically speeds up the production process on the other side. I know this doesn’t help in the face of rejection, but the work isn’t pointless most times. Abstract formatting is particularly important.
