Very impressed by Dammi, with Riz Ahmed. Captures perfectly the migrant experience - the fear of being just an observer, of belonging nowhere and everywhere - a great short movie. A must watch for migrant scholars theguardian.com/film/article/2….

“What part of the Eiffel Tower have they taking it from (the hexagon piece in the medal)? Was slightly concerned” 🤣😂 Love how kitschy and eurovisiony the opening ceremony of the Olympics is and the BBC commentary - does not disappoint ;)

Incredibly difficult but important to watch. 'Green border' captures the plight of refugees caught in a limbo state on the border between Poland and Belarus. A post-apocalyptic drama in which the forest becomes the site of frantic survival struggle. theguardian.com/film/2023/sep/…

A scam/fake news channel (which now has 3000 followers, having had almost none) seems to have invented a fake Arab name and run a false story about Southport, generating 1.4 m impressions. Widely shared by users (some naively, others perhaps knowingly). X doing nothing about it

I wish we would talk more openly about the threat of the far right [to social and community cohesion] in this country. It doesn't take much to spark a riot - but it takes much longer to heal the divisions and hurt. Hate crime has long term consequences on communities as well.

This is how Southport responded. A group of around 100 members of the community are repairing damage to the local mosque, seen here rebuilding a wall. St Luke’s Road, last night strewn with rubble and debris, has already been cleared.

Working through poor health is more common among marginalised ethnic groups, people in lower quality jobs. Black or Asian employees are twice as likely to work through sickness compared to white British. Link to report: ippr.org/articles/healt…
