Good morning #medtwitter this is a 📸 of my ✋🏻 this morning after a bad #PICS night. Post Intensive Care Syndrome affects survivors differently. I dream, 7 years on, that I am in the ICU w/an IV. This is what I wake up to. This is what recovery looks like. #Delirium #ICU

This image from #ats2024 Hannah Wunsch will stay with me. Even in the earliest days of mechanical ventilation and the polio epidemic. The patients were BROUGHT OUTSIDE. Humanism always. ❤️‍🩹

It was so great to talk to Critical Care Scenarios team about caring for the psychological health of ICU patients. So grateful for all the members of ICU teams who help patients not just survive, but live.

I think everyone who practices critical care should read this study. 25% of post-brain injury patients without observable response to commands had fMRI/EEG signals consistent w/ consciousness and cognitive response to command. (most were post-TBI or stroke/ICH)

“I am participating in the #walk4PICS to raise awareness about post intensive care syndrome. Unfortunately, there are millions, like me, who suffer from #PICS & don’t get timely care because there’s a lack of awareness. Kirsten Harrell, PsyD #ICUSurvivor with PICS” 1/2
