Because, like President Thomas Bach, he believes he is more important than the organisation and he plans to rule for life The Olympic Games FIFA

What a shame that Thomas Bach didn’t make a stand on term limits when the subject of him staying on as President at end of his 12 year term was raised. He could have ended speculation immediately by saying, thank you but he was going to respect the Olympic Charter The Olympic Games

Bit of a waste of time this poll as the countries most likely to host the 2036 @olympics - Qatar or Saudi Arabia - are not included. Not even the IOC are stupid enough to return to Germany for the centenary of the Centennial Nazi Olympics.

Phenomenal performance by teenager who turned only 17 last month. If she can do this in races where she will have rivals around her in the closing stages, she will be contender for The Olympic Games medal at Paris 2024 Team GB @WorlAthletics

Thomas Bach not brave enough to travel to Bangkok to explain to Olympic Council of Asia why the IOC has banned its former President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah for 15 years. Knows he would face a hostile reception from an audience who support Sheikh The Olympic Games Olympic Council of Asia

First recorded case of athlete using drugs at @olympics was St Louis 1904 when winner of marathon, Thomas Hicks, received strychnine and brandy during race. He was born in Britain, but was representing USA. Don’t think any country can claim moral high ground when comes to doping.

The Sheikh badly misjudged character of Thomas Bach if he was expecting any loyalty in return. Bach must destroy anything he perceives as a threat to ensure he protects the most important thing, which is Thomas Bach. The Sheikh will not be the last person Bach will try to destroy

This means Sheikh Ahmad will remain suspended until near the end of Thomas Bach’s reign as President… @olympics

If only Thomas Bach had been as supportive of WADA over Russia. Difference was that then they wanted to take action, which would have upset his old mate Vladimir Putin. This time WADA are not taking action, which is good for another old friend Xi Jinping @olympics

Countries like USA and UK have always had selective memories about their own country’s involvements in drug scandals and the subsequent cover ups to protect star names. A piece I wrote on this subject more than 20 years ago amp.theguardian.com/sport/2003/apr…

One of the issues , I think, is that everyone knows in the country protesting so loudly about this is that there is rampant drug abuse in professional sports that they can do nothing about and is home to a shoe company behind some of the biggest doping scandals in history.

With only 34 per cent possession, probably had the ball for less time than in any match this season. But, as if they needed reminding, only one number counts in football. If this is Enzo’s plan B, then I like it.

Very interesting piece by John Duerden about the future of Hong Kong’s national football team now that the former British colony is firmly back under the control of China

Great to see former insidethegames colleague Nick Butler setting the agenda this weekend with this fantastic piece of work that seems to have caused major diplomatic row between WADA and USADA
