#OTD 1537 death of Jane Seymour 3rd wife of Henry VIII. Lowest born of Henry’s wives, Jane died 12 days after bearing a son. This ensured her importance to Tudor dynasty (while son, Ed VI, lived), with Jane featuring in dynastic portraits. Henry buried with her #queen #royalty

#OTD 1157 death of Sweyn III of Denmark. Reputedly murdered by angry peasants after losing his horse &armour in a bog while attempting to flee battle of Grathe Heath. Troubled reign. Sweyn famously attempted to kill his rivals at a peace banquet (Bloodfeast of Roskilde) #royalty

#OTD in 1516 birth of Charlotte, 2nd daughter of Francis I of France & Claude Duchess of Brittany. Charlotte died of measles in 1524 aged 7. Only two of her parents’ 7 children would live past their mid-twenties #royalty #france

Monument to Sir George Shirley (d.1622) and his first wife Frances Berkeley (d.1595) at Breedon-on-the-Hill, Leicestershire. Within the base is a cadaver of strange anatomical form. On the top kneel Sir George, Frances, a daughter, two sons and two babies in cradles.
