Just spotted this in our #Staffs garden, on a fallen leaf. Don't know what it is, but is looks different from the usual flies I see here. #Diptera

I photographed this butterfly in the garden last week and when processing the shot, noticed it had a passenger. Do you see it? Look near the tip of the abdomen; there's a minuscule wasp. Could be an egg parasitoid - fascinating! #WaspLove #OrPerhapsNot

The sunlit side of our garden summer-house is a favourite spot for flies to warm-up and as so, a favourite spot for Field Digger Wasps (Mellinus arvensis) to hunt. This one has caught what looks like a Pollenia Cluster Fly. #WaspLove

Had a large (20cm diameter) mushroom in the garden. I picked it today, hoping it might offer some photographic opportunities. It did. I posted some other shots on iNaturalist and was advised it's likely one of the rollrim species. I have no idea!

The hoverfly Xylota segnis in the garden today; I think that's what it is anyway. Don't recollect seeing it here before. #Staffs

More Field Digger Wasp (Mellinus arvensis) activity in our Staffs garden today. This one has caught a greenbottle-type fly. Hunting female wasps present in significant numbers this year; I've counted around 100 nest burrows. #WaspLove

It's cranefly season again and I'm presented with the usual dilemma; which bit of it should I attempt to photograph? #DaddyLongLegs
