By comparison, the 2023 record was 21.09°C, held from August 22-26.

Yesterday global sea surface temperatures (SST) hit a new modern-day record high of 21.18°C, beating the previous record of 21.17°C set just this past March 1st.

Yearly SSTs usually peak towards the end of March.
