I'm over the moon: my paper on dating apps and power in the digital sexual sphere has been conditionally accepted by American Political Science Review! No better way to start the academic year, can't wait to share it with you.

Mycket bra!

On my way to Philly! I’m especially looking forward to discussing Emma Planinc’s fantastic new book, “Regenerative Politics,” with a group of brilliant scholars. Thu, 4pm, PCC 202B. Hope to see you all there!

Typ bilda sina medborgare.

Several decades ago, when the world was flattening and history was about to end, a vast normative literature on the ‘moral limits of markets’ (MLM) developed within analytical moral, political, and legal philosophy.

Shai Agmon (@shaiagmon) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The motivation for this intellectual movement was a concern shared by philosophers and non-philosophers alike about the ongoing invasion, or expansion, of the market economy and market norms into a growing number of social spheres.

Shai Agmon (@shaiagmon) 's Twitter Profile Photo

But while arguments for limiting market expansionism proliferated, a fundamental question has been left unanswered: the moral limits of what, exactly? MLM theorists tend to use terms like markets, putting a price tag, buying, and selling interchangeably and inconsistently.

Shai Agmon (@shaiagmon) 's Twitter Profile Photo

My paper clarifies this ambiguity by offering a taxonomy of different dimensions of exchange: Alienation, Commodification, Marketisation, Privatisation.

Shai Agmon (@shaiagmon) 's Twitter Profile Photo

In a nutshell, this taxonomy helps us better understand why and what about 'markets' should be limited, and for what normative reasons. As I try to show, it was one thing to limit marketisation, it is a completely different thing to limit commodification.
