In 2017 FAO started a campaign in support of including Indigenous Women in policy discussions. As a symbol, FAO handed a violet shawl to the Chair of the #UNPFII . Ever since it has been passed on from one Chair to the next. Last Monday, Hindou received it from Dario Mejía Montalvo.

FAO takes this opportunity to thank Dario Mejía Montalvo for his leadership and collaborations, and we look forward to continuing the work with Chair Hindou, with whom FAO has been working since the creation of the Pastoralist Knowledge Hub.

At the 3rd meeting of the 23rd Session of the #UNPFII Food and Agriculture Organization’s Yon Fernandez de Larrinoa highlighted the important role of #IndigenousYouth in efforts to end hunger and malnutrition, reiterating FAO’s commitment to support their voices.

During the 3rd meeting of the 23rd Session of the #UNPFII , Yon Fernandez de Larrinoa, head of FAO Indigenous Peoples Unit, stated that 'we cannot preserve Indigenous Peoples food and knowledge systems without Indigenous Youth'.

Read the Indigenous Youth 2023 Rome Declaration, “Safeguarding Future Generations in Times of Food, Social, and Ecological Crisis”. It is aligned with the UNSWAP and UNDRIP, with recommendations for UN Agencies, Member States, and Indigenous Peoples.
