It’s clear that people in later life face significant poverty premiums... more needs to be done to support them.
I was delighted to speak at the launch of The Fabian Society latest report on poverty premiums in financial services and other markets.
The next Labour Government will deliver a national financial inclusion strategy to ensure that everyone can access the financial services they need.
Across the UK, two million pensioners live in poverty, cutting back on meals, living in damp, cold homes and sitting in the dark to save money.
But this isn’t inevitable.
We’ve signed up to Independent Age's statement of intent to tackle pensioner poverty.
Last week, The Fabian Society launched Cost Cutters, a plan to tackle the poverty premium + make work
Our plan would save 100s of £ for each low-income family, and ensure regulators/gov listen consumers

This week's The Fabian Society report found the poverty premium, the extra cost people in poverty spend on essential services, is £444 per household.
During a cost-of-living crisis, people in poverty have been hit by a huge sum just because they are poor.
