Nadia Fall at the Young Vic another great appointment imho! Very happy to see courageous, conscientious people getting the top jobs!

Here's my big interview with her in The Stage from last year...

Also, I'm on holiday in Cornwall this week, just the nine-and-a-half hours away from Edinburgh by train, so there will be no thread of Scottish theatre happening.

I'll just give a quick shout out to D&G Arts Festival, Perth Festival Scot and Imaginate UK, which all kick off this week.

Brilliant interview with the brilliant Stewart. Lots in here but -

“There used to be this lively, fascinating critical conversation about shows, too. You would do a show and then there would be this long tail of feedback and analysis. That has also totally disappeared.' !!!

The festival only exists in its current shape and size because it stands on a bedrock of exploitative employment and low pay, while some people/institutions make heaps.

Far more regulation is needed, IMO. The difficulty is in also retaining its open-access, anything goes ethos.

Yep.

There is an alternative Edinburgh where the Ross Bandstand hosts brilliant summer concerts, Charlotte Square has interesting cultural events, and the people walk freely through the private gardens of New Town.
