I enjoyed reading this and expected some lessons for govt from the venture capital style approach the vaccine taskforce took. But the biggest lesson is one that I didn’t expect.

5/ In contrast this cluster RCT in Bangladesh of an improved kitchen (better ventilation + better biomass stove) found a reduction in LBW (primary outcome)

Birthweight had ⬇️ 0.063 g for increasing of each unit of percentage of maternal blood SpCO level

Does cooking with gas vs biomass fuel reduce infant pneumonia in LMICs?

No it doesn’t.

Results from an RCT:

Incidence of severe pneumonia among infants did not differ between those whose mothers cooked with LPG stoves & fuel vs those whose mothers cooked with biomass stoves.
