“so when she throws the empty bag of Cheetos in the backseat and stares out the side window watching the cactus fly by like faceless blurred men who wave to us, I know she is still thinking about the preacher on the radio”

New Flash by Kelly Ann Jacobson: 'The third store we visit has been raided. The shelves are like rows of gapped teeth—missing flashlights, missing batteries, missing fans, missing gallon jugs of water. Our list is a prayer in your clasped hands.'

and you’ll punch him lightly on the shoulder saying what the hell, and he’ll grab your wrist, hold it in his own large, calloused fist, and tell you never, ever touch him like that again
really terrific and original rendition of a classic fairytale Joshua Jones Lofflin in Fractured Lit

“There were ants in my cereal, I remember. I had to throw it out, box and all; then, when some ants lingered in the bowl, I had to hold it up to the faucet and watch as the water rose slowly, slowly to drown them.”

Brilliant fairy-tale reimagining from Joshua Jones Lofflin - great use of the list form (love how the bullet points get bigger as the story builds); wonderfully dark-humourous tone of voice.
I love the different textures in this powerful piece from Amy DeBellis - imagery ('blue surgical masks littering the ground like rectangles of stomped-on sky'), internal thought, splashes of dialogue - so much swirling around in here.

New Micro by Ruth Joffre: 'I used to tell people that my first kiss was on a December night, under a pine tree, when a boy I sort-of liked kissed me after a dance recital; but actually my first kiss was older, and with a woman.' fracturedlit.com/softening/

'It’s mournful work, this deciphering of hues, with the sun a dapple on the soft kid of Ms. Laura’s boots and my right eye pressed to her shoulder until color begins unraveling on the lid ...'

“In this memory, I’m twelve (it’s seventh grade), and I wake up one day to find the condo hushed, as if afraid to breathe too deep and set the hinges to sighing.”
Beautiful work from Ruth Joffre
It’s a real honor to have my story “On AM Radio” featured in the final issue of Juked Magazine. 💙

Excited to see this in the wild — loved it in early drafts & was just wondering if Joshua Jones Lofflin had ever pubbed it. His writing sticks w me that way!
