15 minutes ago I learned about Slick (Scala ORM) and tested a Scala program for the first time
👉 I recommend not using InsertOrUpdate or you will lose transactions

Let's show PostgreSQL's paradox: 📉best response time with 📉lower memory usage and 📈more IOs
💡Do you know why?
.
.
.
👉no direct IO requires a lot of available RAM
👉 those IOPS are filesystem cache hits - see 100% CPU usage (it's mostly system CPU)

New blog post, on the 'you don't need distributed systems' meme, and the idea that distributed systems are only about scale: brooker.co.za/blog/2024/06/0… Short version: scale is only a tiny part of what makes distributed systems interesting and useful.

Yes there are databases which are resilient to failure: transactions continue rather than being canceled to retry after failover.
That's how YugabyteDB works

Thanks JCON organizers for publishing the recordings. Not all folks can travel to conferences, great to have the content online.
I'm there on Twitter for any questions or feedback 🙂

Funny story - on ARM kcbklbc is being executed on a commit and on x86 - each time I modify a block 🤪
Anyone can explain this?

A tip from Stefan Fercot about incremental backups in PostgreSQL: take an incremental backup just after the full one to reduce recovery time. This practice is applicable in Oracle Database, but I've not seen it commonly applied. What about you?

Great article by Arisa Izuno explaining the data modeling considerations for Distributed SQL, using an example from the PostgreSQL tutorial and optimizing it for YugabyteDBDB 🤓🤩yugabyte.com/blog/postgresq…
