At the end of the chainsaw work, I found a spot in the creek where nobody goes. Off! comes the Kevlar chaps. Off! comes the shirt, there goes the pants and underwear, followed by the socks, and it's a cool bath, scrubbing off most of the poison oak and some of the dirt. My creek!

Crews have nearly finished dismantling the last of four dams on the Klamath River. In mid-August, I saw excavators carving away at remnants of two dams — Iron Gate and Copco No. 1. Soon workers will clear channels, reestablishing a free-flowing stretch of the river.
